Bhubaneswar, June 5: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for 11 districts in Odisha, anticipating the arrival of Kalbaisakhi storms today.
According to the Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning, gusty winds, and light to moderate rainfall are expected in parts of Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Balasore, and Bhadrak. Wind speeds in the affected areas are likely to reach between 30 to 40 km/h.
Residents in these regions have been urged to stay alert, particularly in open or vulnerable areas, due to the potential hazards posed by the storm. The IMD has advised caution, as lightning and gusty winds may cause damage to property and pose risks to public safety.
This weather alert comes during a period of intense heat and humidity across the state, especially along the coastal belt. The forecast indicates that while some interior regions may experience isolated showers, large parts of Odisha are still experiencing a severe heatwave.
Authorities have urged citizens to stay informed through official weather updates and take necessary precautions to stay safe.
