Cuttack, July 24: The Orissa High Court has granted conditional bail to IAS officer Dhiman Chakma, who was arrested by the Vigilance department on bribery charges. The court directed Chakma to furnish two sureties of ₹5 lakh each as part of the bail conditions.
Chakma, the former Sub-Collector of Dharamgarh, was caught red-handed by the Vigilance while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a businessman. According to officials, the bribe was part of a ₹20 lakh demand, and the operation was executed based on a pre-planned trap.
Following the arrest, a search of Chakma’s official residence led to the seizure of ₹47 lakh in unaccounted cash. Subsequently, the IAS officer was suspended from his government post pending investigation.
The case has drawn significant public attention, highlighting ongoing efforts by the Vigilance department to crack down on corruption within the administrative system.
