IAF rescues 14 people trapped in swollen Bomjir River along Assam-Arunachal border

Itanagar/Guwahati, June 2: The Indian Air Force (IAF) personnel on Sunday rescued fourteen people who were trapped in the swollen Bomjir River along the Assam-Arunachal border.

As per reports, fourteen people were stranded in the middle of the flooded Bomjir River in Arunachal Pradesh, cut off from the mainland. 

Following this, the Indian Air Force (IAF) launched a critical humanitarian assistance and disaster relief mission on Sunday after receiving a request for help from the governments of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The rescue operation was carried out by an IAF Mi-17 helicopter and all of them were safely rescued to a safe location, said a defence spokesman.

All 14 people, including 13 from Assam's Tinsukia district and one from Arunachal Pradesh, have been safely sent back to their homes, the spokesman said.

The operation was led by Jaydeep Rajak, the Revenue Circle Officer of Sadiya. 

Officials from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh thanked the IAF for acting quickly and ensuring the safe rescue of the stranded people.

Meanwhile, the Arunachal Pradesh government has announced an ex gratia of payment of Rs 4 lakh each to the families of those who died in landslides in the state over the past 48 hours.
