Hyderabad-bound Lufthansa flight forced to return to Frankfurt after bomb threat

Hyderabad, June 16: A Lufthansa flight heading to Hyderabad had to turn back and return to Frankfurt Airport in Germany after it was not given landing clearance due to a bomb threat.

As per reports, flight LH752 had taken off from Frankfurt and was supposed to land at Hyderabad's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport early on Monday. However, the plane turned back during the flight. 

"We didn’t receive permission to land in Hyderabad, so the aircraft made a U-turn and returned," Lufthansa Airlines told news agency ANI.

A senior official at Hyderabad airport also confirmed the plane’s return, saying the bomb threat was received while the aircraft was still outside Indian airspace. Because of this, the flight didn’t enter Indian territory and instead went back to its starting point.

The plane’s sudden diversion raised some questions, as the airline mentioned a lack of landing clearance, while airport authorities linked the incident to the bomb threat. 

No further information about the nature of the threat or the passengers on board has been released yet.

This incident follows a similar scare on June 13, when an Air India flight had to make an emergency landing. Flight AI 379, traveling from Phuket, Thailand, to New Delhi, was forced to land back on the island shortly after takeoff due to a bomb threat.

The Air India flight took off at 9:30 am when the bomb threat was received, leading airport officials to take immediate safety measures. 

Authorities are investigating both incidents, raising security concerns for incoming international flights to India.
