A dramatic chase across the high seas unfolded recently as the Indian Coast Guard (ICG) sprang into action to protect Indian fishermen from being detained by the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency (PMSA). In a tense standoff near the maritime boundary, the ICG ship Agrim intercepted the PMSA ship Nusrat after a two-hour pursuit, preventing the Pakistani vessel from apprehending the fishermen aboard the Indian fishing boat Kaal Bhairav.

This daring rescue operation highlights the ICG's unwavering commitment to safeguarding Indian interests and ensuring the safety of its citizens at sea. Despite attempts by the Nusrat to retreat with the detained fishermen, the Agrim remained steadfast, sending a clear message that any attempt to apprehend Indian fishermen within Indian waters would be met with resolute resistance.

The ICG's swift and decisive action ultimately led to the successful retrieval of all seven Indian fishermen. They were found to be in stable condition, although their fishing boat, the Kaal Bhairav, was unfortunately damaged and sank during the incident.

"The Indian Coast Guard ship Agrim chased the Pakistan Maritime Security Agency ship Nusrat for over two hours and clearly told them that under no condition would it allow the Pakistani ship to take away Indian fishermen from Indian waters," defense officials confirmed.

Following the rescue, the Agrim returned to Okha Harbour, where a joint investigation involving the ICG, State Police, Intelligence Agencies, and Fisheries authorities was launched. The investigation aims to shed light on the circumstances leading to the attempted detention and the subsequent rescue operation.

This incident serves as a powerful reminder of the challenges faced by fishermen who operate in contested waters. It also underscores the crucial role of the Indian Coast Guard in protecting the nation's maritime interests and ensuring the safety and security of its citizens at sea.
