Heavy rainfall likely in Odisha from July 23, IMD issues orange warning for several districts

Bhubaneswar, July 22: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall across Odisha from July 23 to 26, with a low-pressure system likely to form over the north Bay of Bengal by the afternoon of July 24.

Due to the influence of this developing system, widespread rainfall activity is expected in several districts. On July 23, Cuttack and Nayagarh are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, prompting the IMD to issue an Orange Warning for both districts.

Other districts expected to receive heavy rainfall on July 23 include Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Khordha, and Boudh.

On July 24, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh may experience heavy to very heavy rainfall, while areas such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Deogarh, Bargarh, Angul, and Dhenkanal are also likely to receive significant rain.

The wet spell will continue on July 25, with Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Bargarh, Sambalpur, and Keonjhar forecasted to receive very heavy rain. Additionally, districts such as Mayurbhanj, Sonepur, Boudh, Balangir, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Deogarh, Angul, Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, and Jajpur are likely to experience heavy rainfall.

On July 26, isolated places may again witness heavy to very heavy rain, though the IMD is yet to provide a detailed district-wise breakdown for the day.

Meanwhile, rainfall recorded on Monday showed Cuttack receiving 15.2 mm, followed by Bhubaneswar at 9.5 mm, Malkangiri at 3.2 mm, and Bhadrak at 3 mm.

The IMD has advised people in the affected regions to remain alert and take necessary precautions as intense rainfall may lead to localized flooding and waterlogging in low-lying areas.
