The Regional Meteorological Centre has cautioned of heavy downpours until August 28, as a low-pressure area over the region is expected to intensify within the next 24 hours.

According to the IMD forecast, coastal districts such as Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapara are likely to witness very heavy rainfall today, prompting an orange alert. The remaining 28 districts have been placed under a yellow warning for heavy rain.

August 26 Forecast: Kandhamal and Gajapati districts will come under orange alert, while the rest of the state will continue under yellow alert.

Statewide Caution on August 27: A yellow alert has been issued for the entire state on August 27, with Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, and Koraput districts likely to experience very heavy rainfall. Authorities have warned of potential waterlogging and flood-like situations in low-lying areas.

Festivities Under Cloud: The IMD also predicted the formation of a fresh low-pressure system over the northwest Bay of Bengal, off the Odisha–West Bengal coasts, around August 25. With continuous rainfall expected till August 28, popular festivals like Ganesh Puja and Nuakhai may face disruptions across the state.
