Kendrapara, Aug 29: Ajay Sahu, a havildar posted at the Kudanagari police station in Kendrapara district, has been suspended following serious allegations of harassment, coercion, and abuse of authority involving a woman. Kendrapara SP Siddharth Kataria confirmed the suspension and said a departmental inquiry has been launched.
According to reports, Sahu allegedly exploited the woman’s vulnerable situation by repeatedly proposing to her and attempting to lure her into an illicit relationship. He is also accused of making obscene gestures and trying to physically assault her when she was alone. The woman further alleged that when she resisted his advances, Sahu assaulted her and attempted to choke her.
The victim approached SP Kataria on August 23 and lodged a formal complaint. Acting on the complaint, Marshaghai police registered a case against Sahu under the SP's directive.
Sources said Sahu had saved the woman’s phone number and had been repeatedly calling her since last Friday, expressing romantic interest, pressuring her to meet him, offering inducements, and issuing threats. The situation escalated after an audio clip of their alleged conversation went viral on social media.
Following the leak, Sahu stopped reporting for duty. His prolonged absence was reported to the SP by the officer-in-charge, prompting swift disciplinary action.
The case remains under active investigation, with police officials assuring a thorough and impartial inquiry.
