Jhajjar (Haryana), September 24:Jailed gangster Mainpal Dhilla was released on 12-hour custody parole on Thursday to marry his Cambodian partner, whom he met while staying in Cambodia after fleeing India using a fake identity, officials said.
Dhilla, 50, was brought under tight security to a farmhouse in Jhajjar district, where the marriage ceremony was held. According to a police officer, he was released on custody parole from 8 am for 12 hours to solemnise the marriage.
Dhilla is marrying Meta Chan, a Cambodian national whom he met after fleeing to Cambodia while jumping parole in 2018, the officer said.
The couple subsequently began living together and have children. Three of Chan’s children accompanied her to India for the wedding ceremony, officials said.
Dhilla, a criminal wanted by Haryana Police, was arrested in September 2025 after being extradited from Cambodia. His deportation was carried out through an operation coordinated by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in collaboration with Haryana Police and the Union ministries of Home Affairs and External Affairs.
Following his extradition, Dhilla was taken into custody in connection with criminal cases registered against him in Haryana.
