Bhubaneswar, Aug 26: The Inspector In-Charge of Harabhanga police station in Odisha’s Boudh district has been suspended on Saturday after she was caught by vigilance while demanding and receiving bribe.
The IIC who has been identified as Pushpalata Routray has been suspended by police DG.
According to the information, the IIC was caught red-handed by Odisha Vigilance on July 21, 2023 while receiving a bribe amount of Rs 1 Lakh to release some vehicles of a person which were engaged in sand quarrying.
As per primary reports, Routray had seized three sand laden hyvas and later she had demanded Rs 1 Lakh of bribe to hyva owner Sarat Behera to release the vehicles. Though Sarat had requested to give Rs 80,000, the IIC had demanded Rs 1 Lakh. However, Behera had approached the Vigilance in this regard. Following the complaint, a team of Boudh and Berhampur vigilance conducted a raid and caught the IIC while accepting the bribe.
