Gold rush on Dhanteras as jewellers expect 12% growth in demand

Bhubaneswar, Nov 6: Despite rising gold and silver prices, jewellers expect demand to increase by around 12% during Dhanteras 2026, driven by festive offers, advance bookings and the upcoming wedding season.

Gold prices, which touched nearly Rs 1.80 lakh per 10 grams in January this year, have reportedly declined by around 30% since then. The recent correction has encouraged customers to purchase jewellery ahead of weddings scheduled over the next three to six months. Lightweight and trendy jewellery are also witnessing growing demand.

According to the India Bullion and Jewellers Association (IBJA), advance bookings are likely to support sales despite price fluctuations. Retailers are offering attractive discounts on making charges and special festive deals to attract buyers.

Nishit Nanda, founder of Arnika, said the recent decline in gold prices after several months of high rates has boosted customer confidence. Under its 'Sahajanya' campaign, Arnika is offering one free gold coin on jewellery purchases worth Rs 50,000 and four gold coins on purchases worth Rs 1.80 lakh. The showroom also has a collection of lightweight and designer jewellery.

Arindam Pramanik, Business Manager of Tanishq, said customer footfall has remained encouraging, with the brand offering new collections and discounts to ease the impact of higher prices. Customers are buying jewellery for both Dhanteras and upcoming weddings.

Siddheshwar Rath, Marketing Manager of Malabar Gold and Diamonds, said showroom visits have increased over the past four to five days. The company expects good business this year and is offering a 30% discount on gold jewellery making charges. Its showrooms will open at 8.30 am on Dhanteras, with separate counters for advance bookings and gold coin purchases.

Meanwhile, Arundhati Managing Director Brahmananda Meher said the encouraging customer response reflects the trust in the brand. As part of its festive offers, the retailer is providing a 50% discount on making charges for 22-carat gold jewellery, along with lifetime free repairs, complimentary insurance and 100% exchange value on old jewellery.

With festive discounts, advance bookings and wedding-related purchases driving demand, jewellers are optimistic about strong sales during Dhanteras 2026 despite volatile precious metal prices.
