Berhampur, Sept 21: Ahead of the approaching weather system over the Bay of Bengal, the Ganjam district administration has stepped up preparedness measures, with Collector V. Keerthi Vasan directing officials to remain on high alert and ensure adequate arrangements to deal with possible heavy rain, strong winds, waterlogging and landslides.

At a preparedness meeting held on Sunday, officials were instructed to keep rescue equipment, medicines, essential supplies and manpower ready. Fishermen at sea have been advised to return to the coast by September 21 and refrain from venturing into the sea until September 25, while district-level officials have been directed not to leave the district headquarters during the period.
The administration has also urged residents to remain in safe places during thunderstorms, lightning and heavy rainfall and stressed continuous inter-departmental coordination for a prompt response to any emergency.
