New Delhi, Oct 12: With the gang rape of a MBBS student at Durgapur in West Bengal, Union Minister for Women & Child Development (W&CD),Annpurna Devi on Sunday came down heavily on the West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.
Condemning the heinous act, the Union Minister said, "The National Commission for Women (NCW) has visited the spot, and has been gathering information about the ghastly incident.
“We want stern action to be taken regarding what happened",she added.
Criticising the declining law & order in West Bengal the Union Minister said, despite having a woman chief minister, Mamata Banerjee, in West Bengal, it is unfortunate to see such incidents happening there again and again. Thus, the women are not safe here, as frequent rape cases are coming to light across the state , particularly in the educational institutions. The CM needs to take note of it and initiate strict action against the accused. Additionally, checking security arrangements in the college is necessary, specifically verifying whether the CCTV cameras are functioning properly.
“We will take further action after the NCW team, which has gone there, submits its report to the government”, the Minister added.
