From waterfall to lifeline: How R.Padikia Village Turned Nature into a Community Resource

R.Padikia, Ap 9: In the heart of R.Padikia village, nestled in the Ratiṅgīā Panchayat, a natural waterfall that had long flowed unused has been transformed into a vital source of water for the entire community. Originating from Kalimahari, the waterfalls potential had remained largely untapped—till this year, when villagers, united by a shared vision and aided by the Madhyam Foundation, harnessed its flow to supply clean water to homes and irrigation for fields.

For years, villagers petitioned government authorities to solve their persistent water shortages, but their pleas yielded little. Undeterred, the community took matters into their own hands, channeling the waterfall to meet both household and agricultural needs-a feat that has brought relief and renewed hope.

The completion of the project was celebrated with a gathering of key officials. During the ceremony, the DBRI project was formally inaugurated and handed over to the community.

This initiative is more than a solution to water scarcity-it is a testament to the power of community-driven development in Odisha.
