Former RI convicted in Odisha Vigilance bribery case

Dhenkanal, July 28: Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of former Revenue Inspector (RI) Malati Dehury in a bribery case related to a mutation enquiry.

The Special Vigilance Judge, Dhenkanal convicted Malati Dehury, who had served as the Revenue Inspector of Kandarasingha Revenue Circle under Parjang Tahasil in Dhenkanal district and was later posted as RI of Panchupada Circle under Hindol Tahasil.

Dehury had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for submitting an enquiry report in a mutation case.

Following the trial, the court found her guilty and sentenced her to two years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine.

Odisha Vigilance stated that, following the conviction, it will move the competent authority to initiate the process for dismissal of Malati Dehury from government service in accordance with the applicable service rules.
