Angul, Oct 31: Gunanidhi Nayak, former Revenue Inspector (RI) of Kumurisinga Circle under Angul Tahasil in Angul district, has been convicted in a bribery case by the Court of the Special Judge, Vigilance, Angul.

Nayak, who is now retired, was charge-sheeted by the Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(d) and Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for demanding and accepting a bribe from a complainant in exchange for sending a verification report related to a mutation case.

After the trial, the court found Nayak guilty and sentenced him to undergo rigorous imprisonment for two years along with a fine.

Following the conviction, the Odisha Vigilance Department announced that it will move the competent authority to initiate proceedings for the stoppage of Nayak’s pension in accordance with the rules.
