Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: Former Mayurbhanj MP Ramchandra Hansdah joined the Congress on Monday, along with his supporters.
His induction into the party has generated enthusiasm among Congress workers and leaders in the Mayurbhanj region.
Hansdah joined the Congress in the presence of Odisha Congress in-charge Lalji Desai and Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhakta Charan Das here. Several of his supporters also joined the party during the occasion.
Explaining his decision to join the Congress, Hansdah said that he found greater alignment with the party's ideology and policies.
He reiterated his commitment to working for the rights and interests of tribal communities and said he would continue to raise issues affecting them.
Hansdah also expressed his intention to work towards strengthening the Congress organisation in Mayurbhanj.
His entry, along with the addition of his supporters, is being viewed by party leaders as a potential boost to the Congress's organisational presence in the tribal-dominated district.
Congress leaders expressed hope that Hansdah's political experience and local influence would help give fresh momentum to the party's activities in Mayurbhanj.
