Former Champua block store in-charge sentenced to 2 years in vigilance case

Keonjhar, May 26: In a significant anti-corruption development, Odisha Vigilance has secured the conviction of a retired government official in a corruption case related to misappropriation of government funds in Keonjhar district.

On May 26, 2026, the Hon’ble Special Judge, Vigilance, Keonjhar convicted Sri Sarat Chandra Nanda, former Development Clerk-cum-Store In-Charge of Champua Block in Keonjhar district, in a vigilance corruption case. The court sentenced him to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000.

Nanda had been charge-sheeted by Odisha Vigilance under Sections 13(2) read with 13(1)(c) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, along with Sections 409, 468 and 471 of the IPC, for allegedly misappropriating government money by manipulating cement stock and issue registers at Champua Block during 2004-05 and 2005-06.

According to Vigilance officials, the retired official was found involved in irregularities linked to the handling and issuance of cement stocks, resulting in financial loss to the government exchequer.

Following the conviction, Odisha Vigilance said it will move the competent authority for stoppage of pension benefits of the retired official.
