Forest officials seize leopard skin in Odisha's Nuapada, one arrested

Nuapada, Aug 27: In yet another crackdown on wildlife trade, forest officials on Wednesday seized a leopard skin from Sinapali area of Odisha’s Nuapada district and arrested one person in this connection.
The arrested accused has been identified as Hrishikesh Bagh.
Acting on a tip-off, the Forest Department officials and intercepted Hrishikesh on the Cheliaguda Biju Expressway while he was carrying the leopard skin on a scooty on the night of August 25 and conducted a search, stated Khariar Divisional Forest Officer Aziz Khan.
The skin has been confiscated and will undergo forensic analysis to determine the cause of the animal's death.
The leopard skin, measuring 180 cm from head to tail, suggests the animal was over a year old.
Meanwhile, Bagh has been charged under the Wildlife Protection Act and the Act on Killing and Trading Wild Animals. The Forest Department is continuing its investigation into the incident.
