Bhubaneswar, July 17: The Crime Branch has intensified its investigation into the death of the FM College student by visiting SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack on Thursday, where they interrogated a key eyewitness currently undergoing treatment.
A two-member team from the Crime Branch questioned Jyotiprakash Biswal, who is admitted to the Burn ICU after sustaining severe injuries while trying to save the victim during her self-immolation attempt.
Sources said the officials visited the Plastic Surgery Department and spoke at length with Jyotiprakash to understand the sequence of events that led to the tragic incident, particularly how the victim caught fire. The interrogation reportedly lasted over an hour.
The team also consulted the doctors attending to Jyotiprakash to assess the medical aspects of his injuries, which include serious burns to his face, hands, and lungs.
Jyotiprakash’s eyewitness account is considered crucial in reconstructing the events of the incident. His bravery in attempting to save the girl has drawn public attention, and his father, Sanatan Biswal, has appealed to the State government for financial and medical assistance.
The Crime Branch is continuing its probe to determine the full circumstances surrounding the student's death.
