Puri, February 14: In an unprecedented incident, the flagpole atop the Puri Shri Jagannath Temple broke down into pieces on Friday.
Following the incident, the Patitapaban Bana, which is considered as a sacred flag to wash out devotee’s sins and sufferings, was found flown away from its place and falling down on the temple.
According to report, the flagpole(Akshya Danda) of the Jagannath Temple generally a piece of bamboo that holds the pious Patitapaban Flag with some other coloured flags offered by the devotees,was seen collapsed in the afternoon.It was first discovered by some visitors which was later informed to the temple administration.
Follwing this, the Chunra Servitors, put a new piece of bamboo, replaced the flagpole and tied the Patitapaban Bana to it afresh.
As there is no strong wind these days, the reason behind the flagpole’s breakage is yet to be ascertained.
