Ex-Phulbani ITI Principal gets 3 Years jail in DA case

Bhubaneswar, July 28: A Special Vigilance Court in Phulbani has sentenced Saroj Kanta Ray, former Principal of Government ITI, Phulbani, to three years of rigorous imprisonment in a disproportionate assets (DA) case. The court also imposed a fine of ₹50,000.

Ray, who is currently posted as a Lecturer in Electronics at Government Polytechnic, Dhenkanal, was convicted under Section 13(2) read with Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, and Section 109 of the IPC.

The conviction follows a vigilance probe that revealed Ray had amassed assets significantly disproportionate to his known sources of income during his tenure at the Phulbani Institute.

Odisha Vigilance, which had filed the charge sheet in the case, said it would now move to initiate Ray’s dismissal from government service.
