Elephant dies in Odisha

Dhenkanal, Nov 2: An elephant was killed after being hit by a goods train in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Saturday.

The accident took place at around 2 am when a herd of around 40 jumbos was crossing railway tracks in Chinta Pokhari area, around three kilometres away, from the Meramundali railway station, a senior officer said.

Forest official and Government Railway Police (GRP) rushed to the spot being informed about the incident and recovered the carcass.

Meanwhile, forest department has launched an investigation into the cause of the accident sending the  body for post-mortem.
