Berhampur, July 1: In a shocking incident from Satuli village in Odisha’s Ganjam district, eight members of a single family fell seriously ill after consuming wild mushrooms believed to be poisonous. All the affected individuals have been admitted to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur for advanced medical care.
According to local sources, the family had harvested mushrooms from their field on Monday and consumed them after cooking. Soon after the meal, all eight individuals began experiencing severe symptoms, including vomiting and nausea.
The victims — identified as Suratha Sahu, Sushanti Sahu, Amar Sahu, Raja Sahu, Bipana Sahu, Sweety Sahu, Sapana Sahu, and Sukuru Sahu — were initially rushed to the nearby Khandideuli Community Health Center. However, as their condition deteriorated, they were shifted to MKCG Medical in two ambulances for further treatment.
Health officials suspect mushroom poisoning, often caused by the consumption of toxic wild varieties. Locals have been urged to exercise caution and avoid eating unidentified wild mushrooms. Further investigation into the incident is underway.
