Udala (Mayurbhanj), June 3: A tragic case of domestic violence emerged from Kutiling Bandhasahi village under Udala police jurisdiction, where a woman lost her life following a brutal assault by her husband.
The victim, identified as Basanti Baske, was reportedly attacked by her husband, Lama Baske, after a dispute over a meal. According to sources, Lama had purchased eggs the previous day and asked Basanti to prepare egg curry. When the meal was served without it, an argument ensued.
The disagreement quickly escalated. Lama allegedly dragged Basanti inside their home and assaulted her severely, striking her multiple times with an iron blowpipe. Despite the efforts of neighbours, who were drawn to the scene by the sounds of the altercation, the assault continued until Basanti succumbed to her injuries on the spot.
Following the incident, Udala police arrived at the scene and took Lama Baske into custody. An investigation is currently underway.
Local residents expressed shock over the incident, stating that although the couple occasionally had arguments, they typically resolved their differences peacefully. However, this time the conflict turned deadly.
