BHUBANESWAR, July 22: In a major step towards modernising railway security, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) of East Coast Railway (ECoR) has launched DSC ARJUN (Dedicated Security Chassis Advanced Railway Junction Under Network Enabled Surveillance), an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-powered robotic surveillance platform aimed at enhancing passenger safety, station security and operational efficiency.
The robotic security platform was unveiled in the presence of East Coast Railway General Manager, senior railway officials and RPF officers.
Developed as part of ECoR’s vision to create a smart, technology-driven security ecosystem, DSC ARJUN integrates cutting-edge technologies, including Artificial Intelligence, Computer Vision, Machine Learning and the Internet of Things (IoT), to assist RPF personnel in delivering proactive and efficient security services.
The initiative builds on Indian Railways’ earlier experiments with robotic policing. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Central Railway introducedCaptain ARJUNto support frontline railway staff. East Coast Railway later deployed the humanoid robot ASC ARJUNat Visakhapatnam Railway Station in January 2026. DSC ARJUN marks the next phase of this technological evolution by combining AI-enabled surveillance with real-time analytics for enhanced railway security.
Designed as a force multiplier for the RPF, DSC ARJUN offers 24x7 intelligent surveillance with features such as AI-based facial recognition, real-time crowd analytics, passenger headcount, unattended baggage detection, suspicious activity monitoring, public address announcements, live video streaming and instant alert generation. These capabilities improve situational awareness, support quicker decision-making and strengthen preventive as well as evidence-based policing.
The robotic platform can be deployed across railway stations, including platforms, concourses, booking offices, waiting halls, circulating areas, parking lots, parcel offices and other vulnerable locations. Through continuous monitoring and AI-driven analytics, it will help RPF personnel prevent crime, regulate passenger movement during peak hours, safeguard railway assets and respond swiftly to emergencies such as fire, medical incidents and security threats.
Speaking on the occasion, railway officials said that integrating AI into railway policing would create a smarter, more responsive security ecosystem. They noted that DSC ARJUN would enhance the operational capabilities of the RPF, improve security management and boost passenger confidence across the East Coast Railway network.
The launch of DSC ARJUN reflects East Coast Railway’s commitment to leveraging advanced technology to build a safer, smarter and more passenger-centric railway system while protecting critical railway infrastructure and ensuring secure travel for millions of passengers.
