Bhubaneswar, Oct 2: Dussehra, also known as Vijayadashami, will be celebrated across India on 2nd October this year. The festival, regarded as one of the country’s most vibrant and significant occasions, symbolises the eternal victory of good over evil, commemorating Lord Rama’s triumph over the demon king Ravana as narrated in the epic Ramayana.
The day is marked by joyous gatherings, community festivities, and cherished traditions. Across towns and cities, fairs, processions, and theatrical performances bring mythological stories to life. A highlight of the celebrations is the burning of towering effigies of Ravana, along with his brothers Kumbhkaran and Meghnath. Dussehra also signifies the conclusion of the nine-day Navratri festival, dedicated to Goddess Durga.
