Bhubaneswar, Sept 10: The desire to visit royal palaces and experience unique decorations is a dream for many, but not everyone can fulfill this wish or have the opportunity to travel outside the state this Durga Puja. This year, the Palasuni Durga Puja Committee has joined in with a spectacular 'Golden Palace' arch.
The height of this majestic arch will be 50 feet with a width of 60 feet. Fifty Bengali artisans have been appointed for a month to work on the intricate design. The idol of Maa Durga will stand at an impressive 20 feet tall. The Durga Puja Committee has also prepared silver crowns for Maa Durga and her accompanying deities—Maa Lakshmi, Saraswati, and Ganesh. Each crown will be crafted with more silver than usual, making the decorations even more exquisite.
The idol of Maa Durga has been sculpted by the renowned artist, Danei Bairan's daughter, Somya Behera, from Cuttack. In addition to the main idol, a 24-foot high "Sumani" idol will be one of the main attractions at the mandap.
As part of the festivities, from Palasuni to Rasulgarh Overbridge, the National Highway will be beautifully illuminated. This is expected to attract a large number of devotees, so the committee has made necessary arrangements to ensure safety and smooth traffic flow. A total of 40 volunteers, along with cooperation from the Commissionerate Police, will manage the safety and security of the devotees.
The celebrations will include several traditional rituals such as the world-renowned Kalash Yatra on the sixth day, a special procession from Balugaon Narayani Peetha on the seventh day, and a significant participation of women devotees during Mahashtami. Special rituals and offerings like Khichdi will be served to devotees during the festivities.
The celebrations will culminate on Vijayadashami with the tradition of offering ten varieties of traditional pithas (cakes) to Maa Durga. This grand event promises to be a fusion of tradition, devotion, and cultural richness, making it one of the most anticipated Durga Puja events in the region.
