Srinagar, May 9: Indian security forces successfully thwarted attempted drone attacks targeting two key military installations in Jammu and Kashmir late Friday night, according to official sources. The targets included the highly secured Srinagar airport and the Awantipora air base in south Kashmir.
Officials revealed that the attempted drone intrusions were detected in time, allowing defense personnel to activate counter-drone protocols and neutralize the threat before any damage could occur. The incidents are being seen as part of a larger pattern of cross-border hostility, occurring just a day after Indian defense systems intercepted multiple drones and missile threats allegedly launched by Pakistan’s military against strategic Indian military positions.
In a related development, unidentified drones were also sighted in the Baramulla district of north Kashmir. Security agencies responded swiftly by deploying surveillance and counter-drone technology to monitor and, if necessary, neutralize any further threats in the region.
While no casualties or damage have been reported, the incidents have raised concerns about the increasing use of drone technology in asymmetric warfare. Intelligence agencies and military officials are closely monitoring the situation and have stepped up aerial surveillance and ground patrols around sensitive installations across Jammu and Kashmir.
