Dhenkanal police crush 50 modified bike silencers ahead of festive season

Dhenkanal, Oct 13: In a major crackdown on noise pollution and reckless riding, Dhenkanal Police destroyed 50 modified bike silencers by crushing them under a road roller in front of Dhenkanal Town Police Station.

The action was carried out on Monday afternoon in the presence of Dhenkanal Superintendent of Police Ajinkya Mane, sending a strong message to bikers using modified exhausts to create deafening noises on city roads.

According to police, several bikers had been creating a nuisance by fitting modified silencers to expensive motorcycles and riding at high speeds through crowded areas.

The motorcycles reportedly produced loud, explosive sounds resembling firecrackers, disturbing residents and posing safety risks to pedestrians and other road users.

The problem was particularly severe during the afternoon and evening hours, when riders allegedly moved through busy parts of the city while revving their engines and creating excessive noise.

To curb the menace, a special team was formed under the leadership of Sadar SDPO Ramesh Chandra Dora and Dhenkanal Town Police Station Inspector Dhiren Kumar Behera.

Police intercepted the motorcycles, removed the modified silencers and warned the riders against repeating such violations.

A total of 50 silencers removed from motorcycles operating in the town were subsequently destroyed by running a road roller over them on the road outside the police station.

The public destruction was intended to raise awareness about the consequences of using unauthorised modified exhausts.

Police said the loud noise and reckless riding had caused concern among residents, particularly women, young women and people suffering from heart-related ailments.

The practice also increased the risk of road accidents, as motorcycles were reportedly being driven at high speeds through crowded areas.

With Durga Puja and Lakshmi Puja approaching, Dhenkanal Police have intensified enforcement to ensure safer roads and reduce noise pollution during the festive season.

SP Ajinkya Mane said the drive would continue and warned that strict action would be taken against those found using modified silencers that cause excessive noise.

The crackdown is aimed at discouraging dangerous riding practices, protecting the public from unnecessary noise and maintaining road safety across Dhenkanal.
