DGCA issues 4 show cause notices to Air India for deviating aviation norms

Delhi, July 24: The Aviation regulator DGCA on Thursday issued at least 4 show cause notices to Air India for deviating some aviation norms.

The Air India’s violations involve cabin crew rest and duty norms, cabin crew training rules and operational procedures. Despite a voluntary disclosure submitted to the DGCA, the aviation major breached some of the specific guidelines related to the safety & security of the passengers and crew members.

The voluntary disclosures were made by the airline to the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) on June 20 and 21. As the aviation watchdog found a lot of deviations of the norms, two pairs of showcause notices were issued, citing on why action deemed will not be taken against the Indian Airlines. 

Responding on the showcause notices, an Air India Spokesperson said,"We acknowledge receipt of these notices from the regulator related to certain voluntary disclosures that were made over the last one year by Air India. We will respond to the said notices within the stipulated period. We remain committed to the safety of our crew and passengers," an Air India spokesperson said in a statement.

According to the sources, there were also violations in crew training and operational procedure in relation to at least four flights, including those operated on July 26, 2024, October 9, 2024 and April 22, 2025.

A showcause notice, based on airline's voluntary disclosures made on June 21, is about three instances of violations in cabin crew training and operational procedures.

These violations happened in some of the flights operated on April 10-11, February 16-May 19 and December 1, 2024, the sources said.

Worth mentioning, on June 12, Air India's Boeing 787-8 aircraft en route to London Gatwick crashed into a building soon after takeoff from Ahmedabad. A total of 260 people, including 19 persons on the ground, died in the tragic crash.
