New Delhi, October 10: Popular YouTuber and government critic Dhruv Rathee was detained by the Delhi Police from his residence in Gurugram's Sector 56 on Saturday morning, ahead of a high-stakes protest called by the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar.
Rathee, who recently arrived in India from Germany and participated in a CJP demonstration in Bengaluru on October 8, had announced his intention to join Saturday's national capital rally via a video post on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday evening. According to police sources, a team of around 50 personnel arrived at his Gurugram home early Saturday to execute the detention.
The move triggered a sharp reaction from the CJP, which immediately demanded Rathee's unconditional and immediate release.
Rathee, who commands a massive digital footprint—including 33 million subscribers on YouTube, 19.2 million followers on Instagram, and 3.3 million on X—remains a central figure in the unfolding political standoff.
