Khordha, Aug 8: Odisha CM Mohan Charan Majhi announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the next of kin, of the deceased Home Guard aspirant who accidentally died during the physical examination on Friday.
The tragic incident occurred in Khordha district today when a youth collapsed and died while undergoing a physical fitness test for home guard recruitment.
The incident took place at the Taratua Reserve Police grounds. According to sources, the deceased, identified as Imadul Haque from the Keranga area, was participating in the 1,600-metre running event as part of the selection process.
Midway through the run, Imadul suddenly fell ill and collapsed. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Bhubaneswar, where doctors pronounced him dead.
Police initiated an investigation into the circumstances of the death, while the post-mortem report is awaited to ascertain the precise reason behind the incident.
The sudden demise has cast a pall of gloom over the recruitment drive, leaving fellow candidates and locals in shock.
