Mumbai, June 3: Spiritual leader the Dalai Lama formally received his Grammy Award on Wednesday during a special ceremony at his office in Dharamshala. The award was won for the album *Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama*.
The Grammy was presented by renowned sarod maestro Amjad Ali Khan along with his sons, Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash, who collaborated on the project.
Speaking to the media, Amjad Ali Khan said that he and his sons had the privilege of performing sarod music alongside the voice of the Dalai Lama on the album. He described the occasion as an honour and expressed his happiness in personally presenting the award to the spiritual leader.
Ayaan Ali Bangash called the collaboration and Grammy win a “blessing,” saying the family felt deeply grateful to have been part of the project. He credited the Dalai Lama’s support and blessings for making the album possible.
Earlier this year, the Dalai Lama won the Grammy Award in the Best Audio Book, Narration, and Storytelling Recording category. He was nominated alongside several notable works, including *Into the Uncut Grass* by Trevor Noah, *Lovely One: A Memoir* by Ketanji Brown Jackson, and *You Know It's True: The Real Story of Milli Vanilli* by Fab Morvan.
Following the award announcement, the Dalai Lama shared a message expressing gratitude and humility. He said he viewed the recognition not as a personal achievement but as an acknowledgment of the shared responsibility of humanity. He emphasized the importance of peace, compassion, environmental care, and the understanding of human unity for the well-being of people around the world.
The spiritual leader also noted that he hoped the Grammy recognition would help spread these messages to a wider audience.
Musician Rufus Wainwright had accepted the award on the Dalai Lama’s behalf during the Grammy ceremony held in February.
