Bhubaneswar, Oct 24: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the evacuation as well as rescue, relief and restoration measures ahead of expected landfall of Cyclone Dana tonight.
The CM held a meeting with with his cabinet colleagues as well as senior officers of the state administration and instructed to complete the evacuation of people from seaside and vulnerable places at the earliest.
The Odisha government has mobilised 19 teams from NDRF, 51 teams from ODRAF and 178 fire services teams to the possibly affected districts.
“We have a target 3.62 lakh people from seaside and vulnerable places of districts likely to bear the brunt of Cyclone Dana. Around 3 lakh persons have been evacuated so far,” said Majhi.
People have been evacuated to 7285 cyclone shelters of 38 vulnerable blocks of the state likely to be affected. Cooked foods are being served at shelters. Police will conduct patrolling in evacuated villages to safeguard valuables of residents, he added.
Additionally, 40 teams have been deployed in the districts to carry out rescue and relief operations.
The evacuation drive has been intensified from this morning, especially in coastal districts of Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak and Balasore.
