Cuttack, May 13: A family from Odisha's Cuttack, has been stranded in Kashmir in the wake of heightened India-Pakistan tensions following ‘Operation Sindoor’. Awhan Panda, along with his father Prasanna, brother Aklanta, and cousin Satyajeet, had set out on a pilgrimage to Vaishno Devi on May 6.
Their plans to return to Delhi by May 10 were upended due to cross-border firing and aerial strikes that have disrupted travel and communication in the region.
Currently, the family is being sheltered at Army quarters, surviving on limited rations and intermittent communication. Awhan conveyed his deep appreciation for the support extended by the Indian Army but admitted to growing concerns about their return journey amid the ongoing conflict.
Vishal Gagan, Odisha’s Resident Commissioner, has confirmed that arrangements are underway to evacuate stranded Odia families.
A special train will transport them from Jammu to Delhi soon, following which further measures will be taken to ensure their safe return to Cuttack.
In response to the crisis, the Odisha government has launched a comprehensive evacuation initiative.
A 24×7 control room has been set up, and five senior officials have been deployed to oversee the coordination of logistics, ensure the safety of affected individuals, and provide necessary medical assistance.
The situation remains tense, but the state administration is actively working to bring all stranded citizens back home safely.
