Bengaluru, Jan 28: In a significant relief for Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and his wife BM Parvathi, a Special Court in Bengaluru has accepted the 'B' report filed by the Lokayukta in the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) scam case. The court's acceptance, announced on January 28, indicates that there is insufficient evidence to pursue further investigation against the CM and three other accused.
The controversy revolves around the alleged allotment of 14 plots to BM Parvathi, Siddaramaiah's wife, in the posh Vijayanagara area of Mysuru in 2021. It is claimed that the plots were given in exchange for three acres and 16 guntas of land in Kesare village, which the MUDA had acquired. The compensation for this land acquisition was valued at Rs 56 Crore in the form of plots.
Earlier investigations by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) looked into the acquisition of 3.16 acres of land by the MUDA. Allegations suggested that Siddaramaiah used his political influence to secure the compensation for his wife. The investigation followed after the Karnataka Governor granted sanction for an investigation under the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, in August 2024.
In addition to the Lokayukta's report, Karnataka Minister HK Patil stated that the judicial commission probing the scam, headed by P.N. Desai, had also given a clean chit to Siddaramaiah and his family. Patil confirmed the commission's findings, clearing the CM and his family of any wrongdoing in the MUDA matter.
With this latest legal development, CM Siddaramaiah and his family are now free from the cloud of suspicion surrounding the controversial land allotment case.
