Congress may remove me, But I stand with its ideology: Moquim

Bhubaneswar, Dec 15: Former MLA Mohammed Moquim has reacted strongly after being expelled from the Congress party, asserting that despite the party’s action against him, his ideological commitment to Congress remains unchanged.

Speaking to the media, Moquim said that while the party may have distanced him organisationally, he continues to stand with the Congress in principle. He stated that he had only highlighted the mistakes within the party, and that this, he believes, led to the disciplinary action against him. Citing Rahul Gandhi’s slogan of “Don’t be afraid,” Moquim said he is not someone who fears consequences and will continue to remain active in politics.

Moquim expressed surprise over the party’s decision and said he would decide his future course of action after consulting his supporters and well-wishers. He added that there is no break in his political journey and that he will continue his political activities.

Clarifying his stand on family members, Moquim said that Sofia remains with the Congress and, as an MLA, will continue to discharge her responsibilities. He refrained from making further comments on internal party matters, stating that he is no longer part of the Congress. He also remarked that walking on the path of truth involves sacrifices, which, in the long run, are beneficial for the party.

Moquim further said that he had written to the party leadership without fear, in line with Rahul Gandhi’s message that the Congress does not fear anyone. He maintained that he has no regret over his statements and believes they will ultimately benefit the party.

Meanwhile, the Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (OPCC) has confirmed that Mohammed Moquim has been expelled from the party for anti-party activities. The OPCC had written to the All India Congress Committee (AICC) seeking action, which has since been approved. As a result, Moquim has been expelled from the party’s primary membership.

Sources said Moquim had questioned the leadership of PCC president Bhakta Das, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, and AICC president Mallikarjun Kharge. He had also written to senior Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, expressing dissatisfaction over the functioning and management of the party.
