New Delhi, May 3: Prime Minister Narendra Modi reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to taking “firm and decisive action” against terrorism and those who support it, in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives and escalated tensions with Pakistan over alleged cross-border involvement.

Speaking during a joint media interaction with Angolan President João Lourenço, Modi called terrorism the “biggest threat to humanity” and expressed gratitude to Angola for its support and condolences.

“We are committed to taking firm and decisive action against terrorists and those who support them. We thank Angola for standing with us in our fight against cross-border terrorism,” said Modi, addressing the media in English before continuing his remarks in Hindi.

In response to the April 22 attack in the picturesque Pahalgam region of Jammu and Kashmir, India swiftly implemented several retaliatory measures, including the suspension of the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty and the closure of the sole operational land border crossing at Attari.

Earlier this week, Modi granted the Indian armed forces “complete operational freedom” to determine the method, targets, and timing of their response, underscoring the country's resolve to deliver a “crushing blow to terrorism.”

The press conference also coincided with Pakistan’s test of a surface-to-surface ballistic missile with a 450-km range. Indian authorities condemned the move as a “reckless act of provocation,” given the heightened regional tensions.

During the interaction, Modi announced a $200 million defence credit line for Angola to support the modernisation of its armed forces. He also discussed cooperation in the maintenance, repair, and supply of defence equipment, adding, “We would be happy to assist in training Angola’s armed forces.”
