Bhubaneswar, April 12: A coal-loaded goods train traveling from Palasa to Bhubaneswar caught fire shortly after passing Khallikote railway station on Friday.
Eyewitnesses at Khallikote noticed smoke billowing from one of the wagons just minutes after the train moved past the station. Reacting swiftly, the alert locals informed railway authorities, who in turn passed the message to officials at the next major stop—Balugaon railway station in Khurda district.
Fire services were immediately mobilised, and emergency teams were able to control and extinguish the blaze when the train arrived at Balugaon. Fortunately, there have been no reports of injuries or casualties.
An investigation has been initiated to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.
