Bhubaneswar, Ap 28: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday extended heartfelt congratulations to the people of Odisha on the 90th anniversary of Odia cinema, calling it a “golden moment” in the state’s cultural history.
In a social media post, CM Majhi commemorated April 28, 1936, the release date of the first Odia film Sita Bibaha, marking the beginning of Odia cinema’s long and inspiring journey. “Today marks a golden moment in the history of Odisha’s cultural pride and glorious identity. On this day in 1936, with the release of Sita Bibaha, our cinematic journey of triumph began,” he wrote.
The Chief Minister acknowledged the struggles and achievements of Odia cinema, noting that it has overcome numerous challenges to establish a distinct identity for Odia language, art, and traditions on the global stage. He emphasized that Odia cinema is not just a source of entertainment but a powerful reflection of Odia society and a medium for cultural awakening.
Paying tribute to the pioneers of the industry, CM Majhi said, “I pay respectful tribute to the unparalleled contributions of all the actors, actresses, directors, producers, and behind-the-scenes artisans who have built this rich tradition.”
He assured full support from the state government, promising efforts to elevate Odia cinema through modern technology and creativity while seeking global recognition for the industry.
