Government officials officially reclaim prime Delhi polo club land

Central authorities have officially seized control of Jaipur Polo Ground located in Delhi's Race Course zone. Officials displayed notices declaring this vast tract as state property. They warned citizens against unauthorised occupation or construction activities. Any illegal use of these premises will invite strict legal action from land development departments. This decisive action marks a major shift in managing prime real estate. Historically, large tracts of central Delhi were allocated for elite sporting clubs, but rapid urban expansion now forces authorities to repurpose these spaces for critical defence operations. Government leaders emphasise that national security needs must take priority over recreational activities.

Legal Fights over Eviction Orders

This development follows a long legal dispute between Government officials and Indian Polo Association members. Authorities previously issued an eviction order in late May directing occupants to leave immediately. Association leaders challenged this directive in multiple judicial forums to protect their interests. Standing Counsel Ashish Dixit defended the state action during recent hearings. He argued that central Delhi suffers from severely limited available land. Officials urgently require this specific space to execute essential public and defence functions. Government representatives insist that retaining such prime land for private sports is no longer viable given modern administrative demands.

Courts Deny Interim Relief Requests

Vacation Judge Dhirendra Rana recently reviewed an urgent appeal filed by polo club representatives. Senior advocates tried to block the execution of existing eviction notices. State lawyers countered that previous property leases no longer exist. They also highlighted incorrect statements made regarding pending stay applications. Legal teams debated fiercely over property rights and statutory powers. Lawyers pointed out that state departments have followed all correct procedures under public premises laws.

Records show no higher courts granted any interim protection to prevent this takeover. District judges previously declined similar relief requests filed by club management. Recognising judicial discipline, the current court refused to halt government actions even temporarily. Officials must now submit formal replies regarding these ongoing legal proceedings. Further judicial hearings will occur next week to examine additional arguments. Authorities clearly intend to maintain physical control over this valuable property while legal challenges continue.
