Bhubaneswar, May 17: Popular YouTuber laba_hansda has come under serious scrutiny after being accused of abetting the suicide of his girlfriend, Salmi Murmu. The allegation has been made by Salmi’s brother, who claims she took her own life due to prolonged emotional abuse inflicted by Hansda. Following the complaint, police at HSR Layout Station in Bengaluru have registered a case and launched an investigation.
According to reports, Salmi Murmu, a native of Bihar, had been living in Bengaluru’s HSR Layout area and working at a private company. She was also an avid motorcyclist and a member of a local biker group. Salmi reportedly met Hansda through social media a few years ago, and the two were in a relationship.
Family members allege that two months prior to her death, Salmi met Hansda in Nepal, during which time he gained unauthorized access to her Facebook and Instagram accounts. Without her knowledge, Hansda allegedly obtained her login credentials and began monitoring her social media activity. He would reportedly confront and verbally abuse her if she received messages from others.
Tensions between the couple escalated in the days leading up to her death. Just two days before the incident, the pair had a heated argument during which Hansda allegedly used obscene language and subjected her to extreme emotional distress.
Salmi’s brother has accused Hansda of being directly responsible for her death, claiming that she was unable to endure the ongoing harassment. He further alleged that Salmi had discovered Hansda was involved with multiple other women, which led to repeated conflicts and further mistreatment. Salmi is said to have called Hansda shortly before taking the fatal step.
The Bengaluru police have registered a case against Laba Hansda under Section 306 of the Indian Penal Code (abetment of suicide). The investigation is currently underway.
A video statement shared by Salmi’s brother on social media has intensified public attention on the case, as calls for justice continue to grow.
