Suspect in Businessman's Murder Killed in Encounter
A key suspect in the recent high-profile murder of Patna businessman Gopal Khemka was killed in a police encounter on Tuesday. The suspect, identified as Vikas alias Raja, was reportedly involved in the manufacturing and trade of illegal weapons.
The confrontation occurred when a joint team of the Special Investigation Team (SIT) and the Special Task Force (STF) conducted a raid based on intelligence. According to police reports, Vikas opened fire on the officers as they approached, prompting retaliatory action in which he was fatally wounded.
This development marks a significant breakthrough in the investigation into the murder of Khemka, who was shot dead outside his residence in the Gandhi Maidan area on the night of July 4.
In a separate advance, police arrested another accused in the case during the businessman’s funeral. The individual was taken into custody after arriving at the ceremony, blending in with the mourners.
Investigations revealed that three assailants had gathered at a local tea stall shortly before the murder. One of them then proceeded to Khemka's residence and carried out the shooting. The main accused was also reportedly wanted in connection with a previous murder case involving an auto driver in Patna.
