Boudh Records 41.6 Degrees While Chilika Witnesses Heavy Downpour in Latest Odisha Weather Report

Odisha witnesses contrasting weather as Boudh hits 41.6 degrees.

Boudh emerged as the hottest location in the state today, recording a maximum temperature of 41.6°C according to the latest data from the Meteorological Centre Bhubaneswar. While western pockets faced intense heat, several coastal and southern districts enjoyed a reprieve through significant rainfall. Chilika recorded the highest rainfall in the state with 63 mm, followed closely by Nuagada at 38.2 mm and Korei at 38 mm.

Heat Intensity in Western Districts

Western Odisha continues to grapple with climbing temperatures even as other parts of the state see moisture. Beyond the peak in Boudh, Jharsuguda reached 41.1°C, while Bhawanipatna stayed warm at 40.5°C. These figures represent a slight departure from normal patterns, though regional variations remain sharp. Interestingly, Rayagada registered the lowest minimum temperature at 19.2°C, highlighting a wide diurnal range between day and night in the hilly terrains.

Coastal Rainfall Brings Relief

Heavy showers lashed specific stations, providing much-needed cooling for local residents. Significant precipitation was noted in Mayurbhanj’s Bahalda with 36 mm and Kalahandi’s Koksara with 35 mm. In the Twin Cities, Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum of 35.6°C with 5.6 mm of rain, while Cuttack stayed slightly warmer at 35.8°C with 7.4 mm of rainfall.

Historically, May in Odisha serves as a transition period where Nor'wester activities, locally known as Kalbaishakhi, frequently clash with the summer heat, often leading to these erratic weather patterns.

Regional Rainfall Statistics

District-wide data shows that Odisha received a cumulative rainfall of 6.2 mm in the last 24 hours, which is a 225% departure from the usual average. Most districts, including Khurda, Gajapati, and Jajpur, are currently in the "Large Excess" category for daily rainfall. However, Jharsuguda and Balasore remain in the deficient bracket, seeing little to no moisture during this period.
