Bolangir, May 2: A disturbing case of domestic abuse and attempted murder has come to light in Bolangir, where a young woman narrowly survived an alleged poisoning attempt orchestrated by her father-in-law.
The victim, Shasika Suna, was married to Pancha Suna of Madhia Pali under Deogaon police jurisdiction 8 years before. Over the years, she reportedly faced repeated harassment and ill-treatment from her in-laws, particularly her father-in-law.
In the past three months, Shasika’s father-in-law is alleged to have made sexual harrasment toward her and tried to lure her into private situations using various context. Despite her repeated resistance, he allegedly continued his attempts. The situation escalated recently when he reportedly gave her poisonous medicine under the guise of a health remedy, causing her to lose consciousness.
Shasika was immediately rushed to Bhima Bhoi Medical College and Hospital by her family. Medical staff confirmed the presence of poison, prompting the family to file a written complaint with Bolangir Sadar police, accusing her father-in-law and others of attempted murder.
Authorities have launched a thorough investigation into the case. The incident highlights the urgent need for awareness and protection for women facing abuse within families.
