Sonepur, Sept 14: In a tragic incident, the body of an elderly man was found floating in a pond in Ulunda block of Odisha’s Sonepur district on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Shyam Padhan, a resident of Kalapathar village.

As per reports, Shyam Padhan went to a nearby pond for taking bath but did not return home. Later his family members launched a frantic search for him, but could not find him.

After some time, some local residents discovered his body floating in the pond and alerted his family as well as the local police.

Upon getting the information, police arrived at the scene and fished out the body with the help of some villagers. Subsequently, it was sent for post-mortem.

Though the exact reason behind the elderly man’s death is yet to be ascertained, it is suspected that he might have drowned while bathing in the pond.

Further investigation into the matter is underway.
