Bhubaneswar, July 8: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Tuesday congratulated Manmohan Samal on his re-election as the BJP’s Odisha unit president unopposed and said under his leadership, the BJP will grow even stronger in the days ahead and will play a pivotal role in shaping a bright future for Odisha.
Samal secured a third term as the State unit BJP president today. He previously held the post from 1999 to 2004, and was appointed again in March 2023.
“Heartfelt congratulations and best wishes to Shri Manmohan Samal on your re-election as the State President of Odisha BJP. Your steadfast leadership, astute organizational skills, and immense dedication to the workers have given BJP a new identity in Odisha,” CM Majhi posted on X.
“I am confident that under your leadership, the BJP will grow even stronger in the days ahead & will play a pivotal role in shaping a bright future for Odisha," the CM added.
The fresh three-year term for Samal is not just an endorsement of his organizational skills - it’s also a strategic move to empower the Chief Minister to take decisive steps.
Samal, a prominent OBC leader with high organizational skills, was the only candidate to have filed nomination for the post of Odisha BJP unit chief on Monday thereby virtually sealing his next term. However, his formal election to the crucial post was announced by party’s central election observer Sanjay Jaiswal today.
The political career of 66-year-old leader from Bhadrak district began with ABVP, when he became president of the Students’ Union of Bhadrak College in 1979. He was elected to the Rajya Sabha in April 2000, and later resigned in 2004 after winning the Odisha Assembly election from the Dhamnagar constituency in Bhadrak district.
During the BJD-BJP coalition Government headed by Naveen Patnaik between 2004 and 2008, Samal served as the Revenue and Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister.
