New Delhi, August 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday declared Maharashtra Governor CP Radhakrishnan as the National Democratic Alliance’s (NDA) nominee for the Vice Presidential election. The announcement followed a BJP Parliamentary Board meeting convened to finalise the choice.
Born on October 20, 1957, in Tiruppur, Tamil Nadu, Chandrapuram Ponnuswamy Radhakrishnan has been a prominent figure in national politics. He assumed office as the Governor of Maharashtra on July 31, 2024, after serving as the Governor of Jharkhand from February 2023 to July 2024. During this period, he was also entrusted with additional responsibilities as the Governor of Telangana (March–July 2024) and Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry (March–August 2024).
Radhakrishnan, a two-time Member of Parliament from Coimbatore (1998, 1999), has been associated with the BJP since its formative years. He headed the party’s Tamil Nadu unit from 2003 to 2006, and his political roots trace back to the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and the Bharatiya Jana Sangh.
