Bhubaneswar, July 17: Accusing opposition BJD and Congress of disturbing the public peace in the State by resorting to agitations and bandh over the death of a girl student of Balasore’s FM Autonomous College, senior BJP leader and Bhubaneswar Lok Sabha member Aparajita Sarangi on Thursday said that both the opposition parties have no moral rights to speak about women safety and security in the State.

“Naveen Patnaik ruled the State for 24 years while Congress ruled for around 40 years. Why didn’t they ensure an ecosystem for the safety and security of women in the State?.,” asked Sarangi in a press conference at the State party headquarters here.

“Odisha is a peaceful State but BJD and Congress leaders from Delhi are disturbing the peaceful atmosphere of the State. They are doing politics,” said the two-time MP.

Today, Congress is observing a 12-hour bandh in protest against the tragic death of a 20-year-old student of Fakir Mohan College in Balasore, who succumbed to self-immolation injuries, triggering widespread outrage across the State.

Yesterday, BJD, the main opposition force in the State has gheraoed the Lok Seva Bhawan over the death of the student demanding resignation of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Higher Education Minister Suryabanshi Suraj.

Alleging that opposition are resorting to such activities to assert their existence and remain in limelight, Sarangi said, “It would have been better if they hit the streets after doing self introspection. What type of security and justice you (BJD & Congress) had given to women during your tenures, are known to all.”
